BM was contracted to inspect and create high-accuracy 3D photogrammetric models of the scour protection surrounding the four piers of one of the world's largest cable-stayed bridges. For this mission, BM utilized an inspection-class ROV outfitted with a USBL positioning system, imaging sonar, color and black-and-white cameras, and a specialized photogrammetric system to ensure precise data collection.

Advanced photogrammetry and 3D modeling tools where utilized for the construction of the scour zone models.

The operation was carried out under extremely challenging conditions, with currents exceeding 3 knots, requiring advanced piloting and precise navigation to maintain stability and capture high-quality data. Despite these difficulties, BM successfully generated sub-millimeter accuracy 3D models of the scour protection. These models not only provide a highly detailed assessment of the current condition but will also serve as an invaluable point of reference for future inspections, enabling accurate long-term monitoring of any changes or degradation over time.
